The FCT Minister, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero has constituted a Ministerial Committee to investigate the accounts of the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) from January 2008 to December 2009. AGIS is the unit that controls all land matters in the Federal Capital Territory. The Minister constituted this committee on discovery that some staff of AGIS were found to be fraudulently diverting revenue meant for the FCT Administration into their private accounts. Preliminary investigations conducted by the Minister revealed that some Finance staff attached to AGIS were suspected to be the perpetrators of the alleged financial scam. The Probe panel is chaired by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Finance & Economic Matters, Mr. Samaila Salihu Bui with Mrs. Ralia Abubakar, Ishaku Ismaila, Peter Timothy Manjuk, Peter Agbir, Barma Mohammed and Lamidu Abdullahi as members; while Baba Goni Mustapha to serve as Secretary. The Committee was charged with the responsibility to confirm all payments made by Bank Draft to AGIS between January 2008 to December 2009. It is also to confirm receipts issued by AGIS within the period and lodgments into AGIS Accounts and examine the entire internal control associated with different type of payment vis-a-vis the global financial practice. The Panel is also mandated to identify and apprehend all staff directly or indirectly connected with the alleged fraud and examine the entire system with a view of identifying leakages and blocking them. Millions of Naira was purportedly diverted by some staffers of the agency and the Minister has vowed to bring the culprits to book. |
