Kano State was thrown into a state of mourning today following the assassination of the wife of second Republic Governor Abubakar Rimi. The attack at the Kano home of the Rimi’s was carried out in the early hours of this morning.

Although details are still sketchy, a source who spoke to Elendureports.com on condition of anonymity said the wife of the former Governor was killed early this morning and nothing was taken from the house, ruling out any suspicions of robbery. The source, speaking to us from the residence of the deceased described the mood in the home as somber.

Former Gov. Abubakar Rimi left his home at 5:00 AM to travel to Kaduna for the fortieth anniversary of the death of Tafawa Balewa. Shortly after his departure, the assassins struck. Mrs. Rimi’s was killed by slitting her throat.

Abubakar Rimi is a Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) chieftain who challenged Pres. Obasanjo in 2003, in direct violation of a pact reached between the North and South on rotation of the Presidency.

Rimi, a second Republic Governor is known to be a strong opponent of the President’s perceived third term agenda.

Sympathizers have been thronging the home of the Rimi’s.
