Our story on Sen. Lee Maeba’s Port Harcourt mansion generated a lot of reactions. Although the Ogoni senator did not respond to us directly, he gave a blow by blow rebuttal of our story to one Anselm John Miller, a Nigerian who is resident in Chicago, Illinois. Anselm John Miller is known to this reporter.
Sen. Lee Maeba told Anselm John Miller that somebody contacted him a few weeks before our story was published to demand the sum of N10, 000,000 to stop a negative story about him from being published. The senator claims that this person contacted him twice on the phone and he ignored the person. We have no way of knowing who contacted the Senator. Certainly the person, whoever that is, was not acting on our behalf as our decision to write a story on the senator was made two days before the story was published. This reporter does not have Lee Maeba’s phone number. Lee Maeba, according to John Miller, claimed that he was a rich young man before he became a senator and therefore could afford the mansion he is building from his legitimate income. We took our time to interview people who knew Maeba before he became a senator. This much is clear: Lee Maeba owns the construction company, Nigercat. We challenge the senator to publish his taxes going back fifteen years so that Nigerians will know his source or sources of income. However, nobody we spoke to could confirm Maeba’s assertion that he was a very rich young man before he became a senator. According to one long time associate of Lee Maeba, “Lee’s penchant to live big and be seen with big men may be as a result of his poor education. Nobody knew Lee as a rich man and he was not. Did you see where he used to live until a few months ago?” he asked. Lee Maeba’s official website says that the Senator is a graduate of University of Science and Technology Port Harcourt. The senator also claims that we did not know the location of the new mansion; hence our publication was based on rumors. Again, we challenge the senator to deny our story publicly and we will publish our source or sources and how the information contained in our story was obtained. Elendureports.com knows the location of Sen. Lee Maeba’s new mansion and his former residence which he abandoned a few months ago. We had visited both locations several times and have pictures of the houses. The last time this reporter visited Maeba’s new mansion the workers claimed that the Senator had just left. For editorial reasons we have chosen not to publish the pictures yet but would gladly make them available to any media organization that wishes to publish the pictures. Elder Owhor close, off Elekahia/Rumukalagbo link Road, Port Harcourt is where the self-acclaimed billionaire senator resided until recently. The street has about five to seven houses and the senator’s house is at the end of the close. His gate, which is painted black and white, can be seen from the entrance of the close. The house is a modest bungalow and the street is dirty, not tarred, no proper drainage system and old abandoned vehicles adorn both sides. There is a mechanic shed as you enter the close. It is hard to believe that a prominent member of the Nigerian senate, friend to all the people who have governed Rivers State since 1999 and a man who claims to own a lucrative construction company lived on this Elder Owhor Close until recently. Any visitor to Lee Maeba’s recent resident will understand why the senator had to abandon the place at the first sign of money. The senator’s new mansion is located at 15 Prof. Abowei Street, GRA phase 111, Port Harcourt. The senator’s old brown gate carries the following inscriptions: OBALGA BP 692/2007. The gate is bordered on the left by a house belonging to one Ordu. His gate man told this reporter that Ordu is a doctor. Before Ordu’s house is Davvy Hotel and Apartments. The senator’s mansion also shares a fence with Brookstone Nursery and Primary School. Sen. Lee Maeba’s new mansion is a two story building that is designed like the White House, the residence of the American president. Maeba’s mansion is very huge and certainly would intimidate some of his neighbors, thus achieving the senator’s primary goal for embarking on such a project. According to our sources, the senator plans to paint the house white as the entire furniture for the house which was imported from Italy is white. Maeba is the father of two girls.
