Oronto Douglas, lawyer and environmental activist may not be well. The ailment is cancer of the stomach. According to very reliable sources, Oronto Douglas has been “in and out of intensive care twice in the past two weeks.” Sources who spoke to Elendureports.com under conditions of anonymity said the former Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information may be dying of cancer of the stomach.
The environmental activist is a Special Adviser to the president attached to the office of the vice President. According to sources, Oronto is in a hospital in San Francisco. He is said to have racked up a bill of about $300,000.00 and Pres. Umar Musa Yar’Adua has refused to give approval for the bills to be settled. The hospital is insisting that Oronto pay at least $150,000.00 before more treatment is given. We are informed that the cancer has metastasized. It is believed in some circles that the refusal to settle Oronto’s bill is part of a plan to sideline the Vice President by the Katsina group. “These people are making a mockery of us and the political leader of the Niger Delta. How can his Special Adviser be that sick and the Federal Government is refusing to pay for his treatment, yet they jet out when they suffer catarrh,” said a source. This reporter was also informed that the Bayelsa State Government has made efforts to pick the bill. There are also indications that his lungs may be collapsing. While we are yet to confirm these, Elendureports.com was reliably informed that his wife will be departing Nigeria this evening for the United States to see him. However, another source told this reporter that he ran into Oronto at a wedding in Port Harcourt and that the former Commissioner looked “terrible” and said he was going to the United States for medical check-up. The source said that Oronto sent a text to a mutual friend of theirs two days ago and said that he was feeling better. Elendureports.com made efforts to talk to somebody from the Vice President’s office, the Bayelsa State Commissioners for Health and Information, chief of staff to the Governor of Bayelsa State. Our efforts were not successful. Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it |
